The Big Idea

This book shares a mighty secret - that life's challenges can be overcome by positive thinking. It's a secret all of us need to learn.
This book will inspire you, energize you, and get you started.

The Law of Human Birth and Development

We must make good use of life and the gifts available to us in order to live well. For this, positive thinking and discrimination are the basic tools. While a negative life means living apart from what is natural and wholesome, a positive life is a part of it. The difference lies only in the use of these tools.
The power of thinking and discrimination can be our worst enemy, and at the same time, be our best friend. The choice is ours and only we, as human beings, are able to exercise this choice.
When a large number of people adopt the positive approach, there is greater prosperity and happiness in their society. In the process, the individual is also elevated, coming closer to the true goal of life. Thus, life not only becomes joyful, but also serves as a gateway to further development.

Like with external development, there are no limits to internal development either. This is where the importance of inner development lies, provided we understand, accept, and practice the laws of positive living.

The Law of Goodness

Today, the greatest dilemma before us is whether to follow the path of goodness or not. Life in general has become so complicated that we have started believing that there is no point in being good and that good people are generally unsuccessful and unhappy. This belief is further strengthened when we see many bad people around us prospering and seemingly very happy.
To understand the law of goodness, first of all one should know the meaning of goodness.

Truly speaking, the basic nature of man is such that it is not always easy for him to discriminate between the path of goodness and the path of evil. Everyone feels that what he is doing will lead to happiness. Few are able to look and think beyond their immediate environment.
If the goal of life is to be achieved, there is no alternative to the path of goodness. This is an eternal truth, which should be understood by all who want to live a positive life.

The Law of Faith

When we have faith, we take a larger view of life. Our eyes are then fixed on the ultimate goal of life, which is development or emancipation to a higher state. Our goal then is to become a better human being while thinking of the society to which we belong.
Faith is nothing but following these laws without questioning and leaving the outcome to nature. When we do so, we carry no more burden on us and our life is bound to be positive from every point of view.

The Law of Fearlessness

Fear is an apprehension of something undesirable happening, or something desirable not happening. The genesis of fear lies in two weaknesses of human beings, and they are desire and doership.

The moment a desire is entertained by us, the seed of fear is also sown. As we proceed in the direction of fulfilling our desire, fear becomes a constant companion and an apprehension of the desire not getting fulfilled is always there. The problem is further compounded by the fact that a sense of doership enhances our ego, and even if the desire is fulfilled, we start entertaining a sort of possessiveness over the outcome of the desire.
Without working, one can never be happy. As long as we are alive, action is a must. An idle person can never be happy.
To endeavour without any apprehension of something desirable not happening or undesirable happening is what we call fearlessness.

The Law of Purity and Honesty

Among the greatest casualties of modern living are purity and honesty. If we contemplate these two virtues, we will come to understand the subtle difference between them.
While purity is something absolute, honesty is a state of mind and is very much related to our belief system as well as the circumstances.
Try at least to become open to yourself about your dishonesty. It will help greatly in living a positive life. There should be no effort to justify our deviation and the admission should be honest. Also, there should be no feeling of guilt. Once such an attitude is developed, there are good chances of coming to the absolutely right path, as the positive life would then unfold.

The Law of Detachment

If people were to dwell upon their failure to achieve their objectives, life would become hell for them and they would suffer immensely despite all their efforts to the contrary. The only thing which can save them from such suffering is their objective and detached view of the situation.
They accept the outcome as such because they feel that perhaps nothing better could have been done. Similar should be the attitude of good people towards the happenings around them.
Living with such a belief is living with detachment, and living with detachment is a sure protection from suffering.
and in the process, lessen our own troubles by making life more positive and meaningful.
Once the process sets in, we reach the goal of positive living in due course.

The Law of Contentment

This law should not be applied to material things only, but should also be extended to non-material things. We should feel contented with our life as a whole, while making our best efforts to make it better in a natural manner.
In short, we should neither leave what comes to us in the course of natural living, nor jump onto what is not within our rational reach. If we do so, we not only make our life positive, but also help others to lead a
positive life.

The Law of Sharing

All that we possess as human beings is a gift of nature, but in our ignorance we develop a feeling of possessiveness over it. We should realize that all possessions are temporary and in due course of time, either we leave them or they leave us. If so, it is all the more worthwhile to ponder upon our attitude towards our so-called possessions, be they material or non-material.

Once this law is understood in the right perspective, we should consider it a blessing to be able to share our possessions with others. Those who do so are really more fortunate than those who do not.

The Law of Affluence

When the feeling of possessiveness is given up, we do not have to feel impoverished - we can remain in a state of mental affluence all the time. In the process, we all can not only enjoy our own possessions, but those of everyone else as well.
This is what we call the law of affluence. Let us all try to follow this law, in order to feel rich, abundant, complete and fulfilled. Life will, then, become truly positive.

The Law of Gratitude

Gratefulness is something which all of us have a duty to express. This should be taken into consideration with another tenet: we should not allow our happiness to depend completely on others; if in case they fail to fulfil their duties to us, then we will suffer for their negligence.
We must seek to do our best to be good to other people and express gratitude if and when they are also good to us. Then, the expression of gratitude by others will only add to our happiness.

The Law of Forgiveness

The essence of the law of forgiveness lies in one small sentence: to err is human, to forgive is divine. As human beings, we all are prone to committing errors, but one should not dwell unduly if a mistake is committed.
We should be able to accept our faults, learn from them and try our best not to repeat them. Once this attitude is adopted, the chances of committing error keep reducing and we march towards a happier life.
One should learn to forgive oneself for the mistakes committed - knowingly or unknowingly - provided we realize that they are mistakes in the first place and take care not to repeat them in the future. Thus, the habit of forgiveness is something which lightens us and gives strength to keep our vow.
To the extent that we are able to cultivate this noble quality in ourselves, our lives will become that much more positive. This is another law that never fails.

The Law of Patience

While our luck or destiny may have an important bearing on our life, they are not our masters. The truth is that we and we alone are the masters of our destinies, and we can easily change our lives for better or worse by what we choose to do or not do.
What is required is patience and perseverance. When these come into play, we will always have patience and will become the masters of our own lives.

The Law of Acceptance

Unfortunately, what most of us try to do is to change ourselves by following the examples set by wrong persons or situations and then justify our slips. Does it really help anyone? Not in the least.
This tendency makes our lives more and more negative. Even the most ordinary events of life can then disturb us. The ultimate aim of us all is to achieve mental peace and happiness, which cannot be achieved by reacting or tolerating.
The only option that works is acceptance of the situation, while doing our best to change it, as explained by the other Laws.

The Law of Excellence

Once on the path of excellence, life becomes a smooth journey, giving pleasure in every moment. We don't have to run after it. The pleasure comes to us wherever we are, irrespective of what we do and without our asking. We then, get what we wish, with optimum effort. The only condition is that our wish has to be need-based and not greed-based. Nature takes care only of our need and not the greed.
True excellence in life is possible only when we live without greed and devote our full energy towards attaining our goals.

The Law of Health

Since thoughts have a direct bearing on our health, it is necessary to always feed ourselves with positive thoughts. Once we understand the basic principles of life and the purpose of living, positive attitudes become natural to us, and good health results.
Worry, fear, anger, hatred and other such negative emotions harm the body, while joyful living leads to good health. Therefore, developing the right attitude is a must for one's well-being.
By doing so, the process of positive living is then perpetuated on its own, and not only living, but death becomes graceful too.

The Law of Wisdom

Someone has rightly pointed out that half of life is if (read the middle two letters in the word) and threefourth is lie (read life without f). This is what happens when life is seen in fractions. On the other hand, when a full view of life is taken, it becomes a process of learning, involving, finding and evolving.
The law of wisdom demands that life should be understood and lived in full, not in parts. This understanding is a must if we want to lead a positive life.

The Law of Courage

It should always be remembered that there is a time when courage means action and there is a
time when it means non-action. While courage is required to take the right action at the right time, it is also required not to act when our action may lead to disharmony.
Similarly, while it requires courage to do virtuous acts, it requires even greater courage to not to do or indulge in evil acts. Thus, a correct perspective of courage helps us in both ways. We must cultivate this virtue in ample measure in order to make best use of our other virtues.

The Law of Humility

A humble person is wonderful to be with, creating happiness wherever he goes and inspiring others to display their best.
Every creative task needs humility behind it. Any brave new world of the future will necessarily have to be build on this edifice. Let us contribute to this creative change, within and without, by cultivating humility in our personality.

The Law of Change

There are winning, as well as losing, moments in life. We tend to welcome the winning moments and ignore the losing ones. But is it fair to do so? Can there be a life with good moments only? Good moments will lose their significance without bad moments. They are there only because of bad moments. Without any of them, there will be no life, or life would be tasteless.

The Law of Relationships

Positive living, in fact, relates precisely to the expansion of mind discussed in the last law. The more we lack this expansion, the more pleasure in life is lost. Let us therefore have another look at our relationships with others and rebuild them with the attitude of love, purity and detachment.
If we do so, we shall be the number one beneficiaries and, in the process, shall create happiness all around. Even if this dream is not fulfilled in this lifetime, it should always remain our cherished goal.
And this is the ultimate law of positive living
